Lite Brite Lighted Peg Art

Lite Brite Lighted Peg ArtMost of us grew up loving our Lite-Brite.  Even though they have changed in style, a Lite-Brite is still being manufactured.  Plus it is a popular toy and gift today, just as it was in the past.

I had a Lite-Brite when I was a child and both of my children had their own too.  We each loved our Lite-Brites and spent hours making beautiful lighted images on the screen.  I always hated having to remove the pegs and destroy the existing pretty art just to make another picture.  But, that simply meant I would get to make it all over again one day.

Horror of all horrors was if our pet dog messed up the picture by trying to jump over the Lite-Brite.  That was second only to spilling the pegs and having to spend time picking them up instead of “working” on the design before us.

We weren’t the only ones who loved it.  Time Magazine named it one of the Top 100 toys of all time.

However, there is a smaller Lite Brite being made and children who don’t know the difference, seem to enjoy making lighted peg art as much as we did when we were little.  The current style will remind you of an iPad, which actually makes it easier to carry from room to room.  It also runs on batteries instead of having to be plugged in.

There are a few other versions available, but the white tablet with the black background screen is most like the original Lite Brite.

  1. Looks like my childhood was incomplete. I did not have one of these, but my grandchildren do, so I think I should start to play and make up for lost time. Thanks for reminding me that I haven’t yet done that.

  2. I remember the Lite Brite – my kids also loved it. Nice to know it is still around, albeit not exactly in the original form. Time changes all things. 🙂
